April 2026

Do you know, readers, there’s an old Irish belief called the “Borrowed Days,” when April borrows a few days from March to bring one last burst of wild weather. People used to say these days could “skin a cow,” not literally, but to show how harsh the cold winds and rain could be. It might explain why early April still brings strong winds, cold snaps, and even flight disruptions in Dublin.

Celebrated Cantonese Culture at St. Patrick’s Day in Dún Laoghaire!

Cantonese in Ireland was honoured to take part in this year’s St. Patrick’s Day parade in Dún Laoghaire, bringing a vibrant splash of Cantonese culture to the streets!

Our volunteers delighted crowds with traditional windmills imported from Hong Kong and the lively sounds of Cantonese music resonating along the parade route. Walking alongside diverse community groups, we were proud to showcase our heritage as part of Ireland’s rich multicultural community.

We’re grateful for the warm welcome and support from the public, fellow participants, and organizers. Your enthusiasm reminds us why cultural exchange and community connection are so important.

Thanks to our amazing volunteers and everyone cheering us on, it’s a privilege to share our culture and be part of this celebration. We can’t wait for next year!
