粵語 × Irish × AI:兩種語言遇上人工智能 | Cantonese × Irish × AI: When Two Languages Meet Artificial Intelligence

Have you ever thought about Cantonese and Irish being studied together in AI research?

A recent study by Chit-Fung Lam and Elaine Uí Dhonnchadha brings the two languages together to examine their grammatical structures and explore the capabilities of large language models in Cantonese–Irish translation and linguistic analysis. The study also found that AI still has significant limitations in these areas, highlighting the continued importance of expert linguistic analysis and verification.

The research forms part of the Parallel Grammar (ParGram) Project and is an interesting example of two very different languages being brought together through language technology research in Ireland.
